The clip serves as a preview for this year’s NHL Stanley Pup, which returns on June 8. According to a USA Today report, all 32 NHL teams will once again be represented by adoptable rescue dogs competing in the fan-favorite special. And really, some of the names alone deserve their own trophy.
Among the participants are Jack Chews, Matthew Schaefurry, Macklin Celewienie, Jack Eichowl, and Seth Arfis. The playful hockey-inspired names immediately caught viewers’ attention, with several commenters already picking favorites before the event has even aired.
The NHL Stanley Pup premiere is about more than cute dogs, though. According to USA Today, many of the canine participants will be available for adoption through the league’s partner organization, Brandywine Valley SPCA. That mission has become a huge part of why the event continues to resonate with fans.
The report also notes that the 90-minute special will feature appearances by NHL stars, celebrity animal advocates, and familiar hockey personalities who will provide commentary throughout the competition.
