Bow, a Mini Australian Labradoodle, has discovered her number nemesis, and it is the dog’s own leash. A video from @bolanstheaussiedoodle on Instagram shows the puppy locked in a one-dog chase scene around a pillar, and it is as hilarious as it gets to watch Bow be both the hunter and the reason the target keeps moving. The innocent dog keeps barking, oblivious to the fact that some “enemies” are simply not worth the time.

Owner shows dog going round and round after own leash

In the video, the dog spots her own loose leash dragging in front of her and barks at it before pouncing toward it. As she darts forward, the leash curves around the pillar, and she follows it around — except the leash pulls taut and Bow emerges out from the other side, continuing the pursuit. She completes the turn, but the leash whips around again. And just like that, the cycle repeats, and it becomes Bow’s hunt for something superficial, something she will never really find.

The owner’s caption speaks on behalf of the frustrated dog, “Why can’t I catch this thing?”

Viewers loved every moment of the chase, with one person writing, “A dog that chases their leash will be busy ?,” while another called it a “Merry go round ???????.” Meanwhile, a third viewer drew parallels, writing, “Just like trying to catch his own tail ?.”

So why does a dog hunt her own leash as if it owes her everything? It is because anything that darts or slinks away can activate a dog’s prey drive, and a dragging leash behaves exactly like a small animal trying to escape. Besides, a puppy would not realize how she is the one engineering the whole chase.

The video does not show whether the dog was ever dizzy, but watching Bow whip around that pillar with no sign of giving up is a pretty actual glimpse into a puppy’s inner world.
