A sweet Instagram video from @story_of_a_junebug shows a rescue dog, Holly, whose new family welcomed her with an open heart and a lot of love to give. Holly, who was afraid of wind, cell phone beeps, vacuums, thunder, fast movements, stores, and even the simple act of folding laundry, is now resting comfortably in her owner’s arms. It is as heartwarming as it gets. The video honors the rescue dog’s fears, while showing what happens when a terrified rescue finally rests in the right arms.

Rescue dog finds comfort in two humans after adoption

There’s the rescue dog, curled up against her people in the video, being scratched to sleep. Then there she is, paddling with her owner in the water, something that would have been unthinkable months ago, and slowly, she is discovering that not everything in this loud world is out to hurt her.

The on-screen words say, “We got a dog who is afraid of everything. But we are her safe space.” Holly’s owners paint it as a privilege to take care of her, writing, “We get to comfort her when the world feels too big.”

They added, “She knows she’s safe wherever we are,” and “We get to rock her to sleep when it thunders outside.” They also highlight, “We get to hold her paw through the scary parts,” and “We get to be her rock when she feels overwhelmed.”

These lines are more than just poetry. They are a window into the daily work of rebuilding a dog’s shattered sense of trust. And Holly is rising to it. Her owner explains, “Despite her fears she has been coming into her own over the last couple months and her personality is becoming bigger and it’s very sweet to see. She knows who her people are and that she is safe with us and her big sister Juniper.”

Though she still startles and needs constant reassurance, the rescue is now also going on car rides without shutting down, a milestone that tells you just how far she has come.
