A deaf shelter dog grabs his toy and runs away, thinking it will be taken away. This Instagram video shows a deaf and vision-impaired rescue puppy who holds on to his new toy like it’s a treasure. Named Brutus, he takes the plushie and runs towards his bed. It appears he is afraid someone will take his gift away. However, the volunteer patiently approaches the pooch and waits until he trusts her. She then plays with him for a while before saying goodbye for the day.
Deaf shelter dog holds toy like it’s a treasure until he realizes it’s safe to play
In a touching Instagram video, a deaf shelter dog named Brutus doesn’t want to share his new toy with anyone. When a volunteer gives a plushie to him as she enters the pooch’s shelter cabin, he grabs it immediately. He takes it in his mouth and runs towards the other end. It seems he is afraid that the toy will be taken away.
In the caption, the uploader explains the reason, which concerns his previous foster home. While he adjusted there happily with other furry friends, Brutus seemingly developed a concerning habit. “In his foster home the first feed was not separated, and that was an issue and now since then Brutus has shown signs of resource guarding food from other dogs,” it reads.
As a result, finding Brutus his forever home has become a bit “more challenging.” However, the volunteer mentions on-screen that they love the pooch at the shelter. Furthermore, the video featured the one-year-old canine slowly coming to trust the volunteer. They play together for a while, and it looks like the shelter dog doesn’t want the woman to leave. He drops his toy when he sees her leaving his cabin.
Meanwhile, viewers have called Brutus the “cutest” and prayed for him in the comments. Since the upload, the post has garnered over 3K likes as of this writing.
