Boojeaux the Golden Retriever cares for baby chicks, and an adorable video from @dojeauxcreamgoldens on Instagram shows that he wants them in his sight at all times. In the video, the dog starts the day with dramatic whining, which feels like he has demands. The on-screen caption explains, “Sometimes he politely asks for babies… other times he demands it!” — and the video’s caption explained that this was one of those demanding mornings. It read, “Some days he wakes up and just screams BABY TIME!!!!”

Golden Retriever’s mood changes as soon as he meets the baby chicks

At first, Boojeaux lies on the floor, vocalizing like he means business. Then the scene cuts to the reason for the tantrum, showing a pair of tiny baby chicks perched near the Golden Retriever on a couch.

The change in Boojeaux is instant. He stops whining, goes still, lowers his head, and watches the babies carefully. As the chicks move around, Boojeaux does not even flinch. He just seems relieved, like his entire morning has been leading up to this, and naturally, fans in the comments praised him for being one of the proudest parents on the internet.

One commenter joked, “He’s not the step dad, he’s the dad that stepped up.” Meanwhile, another noted how gentle he looks with them, writing, “He’s so sweet and gentle,” while a third commenter joked, “I thought he was singing the Jurassic Park theme for a second.”

Golden Retrievers often respond strongly to social contact and routines, and Boojeaux clearly knows what “baby time” means in his house. Dogs also tend to repeat behaviors that lead to some results. If Boojeaux has learned that a certain level of complaining leads to chicks appearing, he is going to keep making that request loudly until his humans respond.

Once the chicks arrive, the dog assumes his role as their parent — same dog, just a totally different job.
