It does not take much to be kind to animals, and what you get in return is unlimited bouts of love. But a heartbreaking Instagram video from @barknwalk_ shows an abandoned dog left outside a Walmart with a box full of toys, and it has struck a nerve online for how gently he seemed to handle it all. He just wanted another chance at life — thanks to a kind adopter, he has one.

The video tells the story of a dog who was abandoned outside Walmart with his toys and stayed there for three days before animal control arrived. The video says that the German Shepherd was “calm, sweet and docile.”
But once he ended up in the shelter, the picture changed, as the shelter labeled him “rescue only” and listed the dog for euthanasia, “simply because he’s scared.” The creator resisted the idea that fear should define him. They wrote, “The way a dog acts in a shelter is usually not representative of their true personality. It’s a loud, scary place,” and that is often true.
Dogs in shelters can shut down, pace, bark, or act aloof because stress changes everything. But what made this story even harder to read was when the creator noted, “If they took the time to collect all his toys, he was obviously a good boy, not a vicious monster.” And even in the video, he does not seem aggressive or wild at any point — he just looks confused and heartbroken.
The good news is that the story did not end there. In an update in the comments, @barknwalk_ shared, “UPDATE: Great news!!! Foster-to-adopt has agreed to take him. Rescue has agreed to pull him!!!” A later update added, “We have secured a foster-to-adopt and a rescue! I found a transport company, now we just need to raise the funds.”
For a while, all this abandoned dog had was a box of toys and the hope that someone would come back to pick him up from that Walmart storefront. Now, he finally has a forever home.
