A scared shelter dog named Tex has a visitor, and he seeks comfort from her by holding her hands. Tex just reaches out a paw and holds on. Julie Saraceno, an animal shelter volunteer, shared the first video of this calm and quiet shelter dog on her Instagram account @jsaraceno, and it is the kind of thing that stays with you. It shows Saraceno visiting Tex, and two video updates show that she could not stop visiting him since.
Shelter dog up for adoption reaches out as he loves holding hands and company
Long before the shelter dog trusts Julie Saraceno to hold her hands, she sits beside him in his tiny kennel, letting the on-screen captions tell his story. It begins with, “Sometimes volunteering is sitting with a newly surrendered and scared dog so they feel loved,” eventually introducing Tex, who “was surrendered on May 5,” and revealing that the man who brought him in had inherited Tex from his daughter but could not keep him.
The questionnaire details everything he loves, including fetch, basic tricks, riding nicely in the car, and taking treats gently, as well as “stuffies and tennis balls.” But “thunder, the vacuum, and fireworks” scare him. Besides, the shelter has him on a diet to help him reduce weight, and he has “little marks on his elbows and his stubby tail has no fur.”
But the best part is that the shelter dog “loves to hold hands.” The whole time Saraceno talks to him and hugs him, Tex keeps his paw in her hand as though letting go is not even an option.
A video update shows the volunteer returning the next day because Tex had not eaten. After work, she visited him to hand-feed him until he finished his meal, and then stuck around for a potty break, all while nicknaming him “Diva.” This pretty much followed the third day as well, with another video update showing more hand-fed dinner and another bathroom trip.
However, each video ends in the same heartbreaking way. Saraceno has to close the kennel door, and Tex, silent in every single video, comes forward, trying to slip out with her. Tex is adoptable at the Benton Franklin Humane Society in Kennewick, Washington. And he is as loving as a furry friend can be.
