Dogs thrive on routine, companionship, and a sense of belonging. When those things suddenly disappear, the change can have a noticeable impact on their behavior. Shelter workers and volunteers witness these struggles firsthand as they care for dogs waiting for new homes. A recent video shared online followed one such puppy whose fortunes changed after her story reached the right family.
‘Heartbroken’ shelter dog finds her forever family
A shelter volunteer in Georgia is celebrating a happy ending for a puppy named Nola after sharing her story online. The volunteer, who posts under the Instagram account @sharing.lov, regularly features adoptable dogs in hopes of helping them find homes. Among them was Nola, a young dog whose quiet demeanor immediately stood out.
According to the volunteer, Nola was only 10 months old when she was given up by her family because they couldn’t look after her anymore. The transition appeared to be especially difficult for the puppy. When the volunteer first met her, Nola curled herself up in bed and showed little interest in the world around her. She later learned that the puppy was not only adjusting to life in a shelter but was also feeling unwell.
“At just 10 months old, Nola spent her days lying in her bed, day after day,” the volunteer explained in the post’s caption. The shelter had become the puppy’s entire world after losing the family she once knew. Wanting to help, the volunteer shared Nola’s story with followers, hoping someone would connect with the young dog. Before long, that hope turned into reality.
A family came across the video and decided to visit the shelter to meet Nola in person. The volunteer recalled being amazed by the change in the puppy’s behavior during the visit. The shy and withdrawn dog she had first encountered seemed to disappear, replaced by a more engaged and excited puppy. “It was almost as if she knew these were her people and had been waiting for them all along,” the volunteer wrote.
The first meeting included Kevin and his young daughter, who quickly bonded with Nola. Later, Kevin’s wife brought along the family dog to ensure the animals would get along. The meet-and-greet went smoothly, giving everyone confidence that the adoption was the right decision. “The very next day, they came back to take Nola home,” the caption read.
Since then, she has flourished in her new home. The volunteer shared that the puppy now spends her days surrounded by love and embracing the carefree life every young dog deserves. What’s more, the family’s daughter also decided that the puppy deserved a new name. She chose “Cupcake,” a fitting nickname for a dog whose story has taken such a sweet turn.
