Staying up late for a big game is a tradition sports fans know well. Sleep suddenly becomes less important when there’s a crucial match to watch, an upset unfolding, or a championship on the line. The problem, of course, is explaining that logic to a dog who expects the evening routine to run like clockwork. An Instagram video shows exactly what happened when one dog named Berlin discovered his owners had chosen a World Cup game over bedtime.
Dog comes out of the room as owners swap bedtime for World Cup game
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup underway, football fans around the world are rearranging their evenings to catch matches. Many of the games run late into the night. While many people are happy to sacrifice a few hours of sleep for the tournament, Berlin the dog appears far less enthusiastic about the disruption.
In a video shared on Instagram by @goodboy.berlin, the pup emerges from another room and heads into the living area. He seemingly expects to find his owners getting ready for bed. Instead, he discovers them sitting on the couch, focused on a World Cup match playing on the television.
While the action on the screen may have been the main attraction for his owners, viewers quickly became more interested in Berlin’s reaction. The Australian Shepherd pauses and stares at his owners with a look of complete confusion. A text overlay on the video sums up the moment: “It’s past your bedtime but your parents still watching World Cup.”
Judging by his expression, Berlin looked less than convinced. He seems to think that this was an acceptable reason to ignore the usual nighttime routine. The video’s caption joked about the weeks ahead for pets during the tournament. It read: “Hard weeks ahead for dogs and their bedtime.”
Viewers flooded the comments section with stories about how major sporting events affect their own pets. One person wrote, “My poor dogs can’t understand why we are screaming our heads off so late at night.” Another commenter added, “If I’m up past our bedtime, which is rare, she’ll wander to me, and look at the stairs.”
Others saw Berlin’s behavior as an attempt to restore order. “He’s going to be herding you to bed,” one viewer joked. Another commenter offered perhaps the funniest interpretation of all: “I can’t chase my ball for more than an hour but then you keep watching others chase it till late.”
